Snow Leopard security update broke Rosetta now fixed

Security Update 2012-001 prevented Rosetta from launching Power PC developed programs. Apple has now released a corrected security update to address the issue.

Issues with the software update version have been reported. I have found it best to use this process for system updates.

1. Repair Disk Permissions

2. Do a Safeboot then restart

3. Download and install the COMBO update only.

Combo updates historically have had fewer probelms than partial updates.

15 in Macbook Pros now 2.2 and 2.4 i7 Quad Cores. 2.2's have AMD Radeon HD 6750M, 2.4's HD 6770M

Lion update fixes bugs and performance while most importantly now supports iCloud. After updating yu will be greated with the opportunity to log into iCLoud with your Applr ID. Do not be in a hurry to do this (see our other post). If you have a .mac or mobile me account then read about what services are no longer supported in iCloud before jumping in.

iCloud countdown

In a couple of weeks Apple's iCloud is expected to be released. Two possibly three updates will be released to support iCloud. Lion version 10.7.2, iOS 5 for mobile devices, and maybe 10.6.9 so Snow Leopard users can keep everything connected. We will post updates as they are announced.

Apple Media Event Oct 4th

Apple is set to make some announcements the first week of October. Sources close to the rumors say a new iPhone 5, or is it a iPhone 4s or 2 iPhones and updated Touch. Only Apple nows for sure. Myself I am waiting for news on the new iOS and Apples Cloud services. Up here in the northwoods and its limited cell coverage and slower speeds the Cloud is more important than faster phones.

iPhone 4 will begin shipping later this month. The new phone is less rounded at the corners, somewhat slimmer, and in two colors. It has a 5 megapixel camera and 720p HD video. iMovie app will have you editing and uploading to youtube or mobile me in no time. iMovie for those with a Mac is more robust and just easier to use on a big screen. If you don't have a Mac the next best thing is iMovie on iPhone 4. With a forward facing camera added you can now talk and see who your talking to at the same time. Service needs to be better here in the northwoods to take advantage of the iPhone capabilities, that includes just calling someone. For the rest of us the iPod Touch still rules.

Apple posts samples of HTML5 working on Safari

Apple has a webpage that demonstrates the capabilities of HTML5 on the Safari web browser. You need Safari for the demos to work. They also provide a section for developers to find information on how best to code and use HTML5 for the iPhone, Touch , and iPad. You can visit using these links.

Microsoft will no longer provide security updates to XP

Now is the time to move from your Windows XP service pack 2 to a new Apple computer. Microsoft announced today that they will no longer be providing security updates for the older systems including Windows XP. Move to a more secure platform that is user friendly.
